Latest Work by Tony Todd:-
This year Tony Todd has been busy exhibiting his paintings at the Riverside Gallery, Barnes, London.
After exhibiting at, the recently closed, Red Biddy Gallery for five years, Tony was forced to look for a similar gallery and the Riverside Gallery was the ideal choice.
He has also been working on a project which features his character ‘Uncle Albert’. This character is supported with humorous stories and bright colourful paintings. A contract has just been signed with a major publisher who will produce a minimum of forty ‘Uncle Albert’ images for greetings cards. They will also print the images in other forms such as calendars, fridge magnets, coasters, kitchen and dining applications etc. These products should start appearing in high street shops and galleries during the first half of 2012. A book is also planned. The worldwide rights have also been taken up by the publisher.
The ‘Uncle Albert’ original paintings are being handled solely by The Red Rag Gallery, Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire. The first wave of these paintings are currently on exhibition at The Red Rag Gallery.
Tony will also have an exhibition of his unique, ‘irregular shaped’ paintings, at Life -The Gallery, Farnham, in Febuary 2012. These colourful, larger than life acrylics, should prove to be quite dazzling when all shown together in an exhibition of this size.
2008-2010 a major project was completed on a spectacular collection
of large paintings depicting characters and scenes from the exciting
Gerald Durrell story 'My
Family and Other Animals'. The classic story of Durrell’s early days spent with his amazing family in Corfu has
been a great favourite for generations of children and adults alike.
The story was adapted for a popular BBC television series starring Brian
Blessed, Hannah Gordon and Darren Redmayne,
more recently another BBC film was made starring Eugene Simon, Imelda
Staunton and Tamsin Merchant. Many editions
of the book have been published throughout the world.
Tony has produced fourteen new paintings using his unique and colourful
idiosyncratic style which proved so popular with his Dylan Thomas’
'Under Milkwood' collection.
In 2009
The Gerald Durrell Wildlife Foundation (GDWF),
based in Jersey, hosted a major exhibition of the finished
paintings as part of their 50th anniversary
celebrations. Many thousands of visitors visited the
island for these celebrations.
A film was made of Tony painting his latest picture in his studio
at Chilworth, this film accompanied the paintings and was shown
at the exhibition. Tony was interviewed by BBC Jersey Radio in
connection with the exhibition. Copyright of the fourteen paintings were donated
to the GDWF for one year.
Following the exhibition in Jersey a further major exhibition of the paintings took
place at the Red Biddy Gallery ,
Shalford during 2010. The complete collectionof Durrell paintings have been sold but prints and cards of the collection are available via The Bridgeman Art Library.
